Released back in 1984 in the album Autumnal Park, the song “His Eyes” famously appeared in the movie Friday The 13th Part V: A New Beginning as one of Jason Voorhees’ victims dances along to it before her inevitable demise. It’s a cool dark glam tune with a fun electro beat and a gothic vibe throughout courtesy of Australian new wave band Pseudo Echo.
Released back in 1954 along with “Blue Moon Of Kentucky”, “That’s All Right” was Elvis Presley‘s first recorded single. Written by Arthur Crudup under the title “That’s All Right, Mama”, the song is a simple, fast-paced, upbeat blues tune with enough cool and attitude for The King to effortlessly make the most of it. This one certainly helped to get the iconic rock n’ roller noticed and propel him right to the top.
Although it’s William Shatner‘s music career which most recall post-Star Trek, Leonard Nimoydid rock out to some pretty random tunes as well. From the pretty awesome album Mr. Spock’s Music From Outer Space, a gem everybody should really own, comes “Highly Illogical”, a song in which Mr. Spock himself questions humanity’s logic. It’s very 60’s and completely adorable.
Our Leonard Nimoyhomage week continues with today’s Song Of The Day: the “Theme From Star Trek”, the quintessential TV sci-fi theme. The classic Original Series of Star Trek would always begin with ominous shots of The Enterprise flying quietly through space as William Shatner‘s grand voice-over led us in slowly until the ship’s big “whoosh” towards the camera finally allowed the iconic theme (courtesy of Alexander Courage) to kick in.
It’s very 1960’s, it’s epic, romantic and just plain cool.
Here’s Mr Nimoy trying his hand at introducing the theme in J.J. Abrams’ first reboot movie:
In loving memory of Leonard Nimoy, who sadly left us last week, our Song Of The Day for today is 1967 cult meme “The Ballad Of Bilbo Baggins” performed by the man himself. Written by Charles Randolph Grean, the track can be found on Nimoy’s second album Two Sides Of Leonard Nimoy and not only is it ridiculously fun but completely adorable and pure gold for J. R. R. Tolkien fans.
Expect more Leonard Nimoy greatness as this week is dedicated to the iconic actor.
